Biography
REJOICE! A Community Choir of Virginia was founded in February of the year 1998 under the direction of Brother Antonio ‘Tony’ Winslow. Inspired by an invitation to appear on another gospel choirs anniversary, Tony called some of his closest friends, singers, and musicians to gather and rehearse a couple of songs for the engagement. At the first rehearsal God placed His annointing on the entire room. The bond, the harmony, and the spirit of Jesus Christ fell on rehearsal that night. Once the choir performed that following weekend, everyone knew that REJOICE! Would become a household name in the City of Richmond and the State of VA. With a group of 12 singers from local churches that Tony had been affiliated with in the past REJOICE! was formed. After some negotiations and brain storming the name ‘REJOICE!’ with the exclamation point was chosen as the groups name. We pride ourselves in living up to the Scripture that reads “because of what You have done, I sing for Joy” Psalms 94:4. REJOICE! is truly blessed. We love to spread the news of Jesus Christ with those who call upon us and share innovative idea’s through the music ministry. Our engagements include but are not limited to Musical Concerts, Funerals, Weddings, Anniversaries, Birthday Celebrations, Community Events as well as supporting our local hospitals as needed. Some of our major accomplishments include being the recipient of the James Cleveland Gospel Music Workshop of America-Richmond Chapter ‘Best New Talent of The Year. (REJOICE! does not believe in competition but this was an honor since we had only been organized as a group for about 7 mo.’s). We have performed with artist such as Shena Easton, Denise Williams, Phillip Bailey, and Jeffery Osborne for the “Colors of Christmas” Tour in Portsmouth, VA. We were elected to be the official United Way of Virginia 2000 Campaign Choir which gave us a sense of what its like to perform for a group of executives at different board meetings, and also the opportunity to sing for Retreat Hospital here in Richmond, VA. We have supported the NAACP, RED CROSS, United Way, R-CAP, GMWA, County of Chesterfield, Henrico and the City of Richmond. We celebrate the Christmas Season with an annual Christmas Concert with proceeds going to less fortunate families in the Richmond area. As we progress in the Lord we hope that God will keep us, mold us, and make us to be what is pleasing in His sight.
